FAQ

Twelve questions,
answered honestly.

The questions registrars, IT directors, and graduates ask before they trust Avogy. If your question is not here, email hello@avogy.com - we reply within 24 hours.

What is a digital credential?
A digital credential is a cryptographically signed record of an achievement, membership, or qualification. Unlike a PDF, it carries a tamper-evident signature that anyone can verify. Avogy issues credentials that follow the W3C Verifiable Credentials standard and OpenBadges 3.0 - the same data formats used globally.
How is verification actually done?
Each credential has a unique ID and a public verification URL. A verifier opens the link (or scans the QR), and we re-check the signature against the issuing organization's public key, confirm the issuer is registered, and check whether the credential has been revoked. The result returns in under a second. No login, no app, no signup.
What happens if Avogy shuts down?
Every credential is exported as a self-contained JSON file (W3C VC + OBv3) that includes the signature and issuer metadata. Recipients can prove their credential against the issuing organization's public key independently of Avogy. We commit to a 90-day wind-down with full data export and an open-source verifier if we ever stop operating.
How does revocation work?
Issuers revoke credentials in one click from the dashboard. Verifiers checking that credential see the revoked status in real time, with the revocation date and reason. Revocations are signed, timestamped, and part of the audit log - they cannot be silently rolled back.
Can recipients export credentials to LinkedIn?
Yes. Every credential has a one-click 'Add to LinkedIn' flow that pre-fills LinkedIn's certifications form with the credential name, issuer, date, and live verification URL. Recruiters who click the URL land on the public verification page.
Do you support OpenBadges 3.0?
Yes. Avogy issues credentials in both W3C Verifiable Credentials format and OpenBadges 3.0. This makes them interoperable with the wider badge and credentialing ecosystem - including LMS platforms, employer skills graphs, and other wallets.
What is the data residency story?
Production data lives on Turso (replicated SQLite). The primary region is configurable - we default to a region close to the issuing institution, with global read replicas for verification. Ghana DPA compliance is supported with a Ghana-region primary on request.
How is Avogy different from Credly?
Credly is a US-priced, US-first platform that locks recipients into a Credly account. Avogy is built for Africa: MoMo and local-currency pricing, WhatsApp claim flows, custom domains for verification (verify.you.edu.gh), no recipient signup required, and true cryptographic Verifiable Credentials rather than centralized JSON badges.
What does it cost?
Pilots are free for the first 30 days with up to 100 credentials. After that, pricing is per-credential issued, with volume tiers for institutions issuing 1,000+ per year. We publish pricing publicly and run transparent quotes - no hidden enterprise sales cycle.
Can I migrate from paper certificates?
Yes. Our Roster Migration service ingests your historical graduate or member database (CSV, Excel, Google Sheets, GHL, custom DB) and back-issues verifiable credentials for past cohorts. Each migrated credential is signed with your current key and dated to the original issue date.
Can I integrate Avogy with my LMS?
Yes. We provide REST APIs and webhooks. Pre-built integrations exist for Moodle and Canvas; custom integrations to HRIS, custom LMSes, and registrar systems are part of our Services offering. Most integrations ship in under a week.
How do I get started?
Sign up at /sign-up, create your organization, design your first template, and issue. The first credential takes about 15 minutes end-to-end. For institutions issuing more than 100 credentials, we recommend our Implementation & Onboarding service - we set up your templates, train your admins, and run a launch session for your team.
